How do I choose the right size light fixture for my space?
Choosing the right size light fixture for your space involves considering the size of the room, the height of the ceiling, and the function of the room. Here are some steps you can follow to help you choose the right size light fixture:
-
Determine the size of the room: Measure the length and width of the room in feet and then add those two numbers together to get the room's size in square feet.
-
Determine the ceiling height: Measure the height of the ceiling from the floor to the ceiling.
-
Consider the function of the room: Different rooms have different lighting needs. For example, a dining room might require a larger, more decorative fixture than a hallway.
-
Use the following guidelines to choose the appropriate size light fixture:
- For a room with a ceiling height of 8 feet, choose a fixture that is 7 inches to 20 inches in diameter.
- For a room with a ceiling height of 9 feet, choose a fixture that is 9 inches to 22 inches in diameter.
- For a room with a ceiling height of 10 feet, choose a fixture that is 10 inches to 24 inches in diameter.
- For a room with a ceiling height of 11 feet or higher, add an additional 3 inches to the diameter of the fixture for every foot of ceiling height.
Keep in mind that these are general guidelines, and your specific space may require a larger or smaller fixture depending on the style, shape, and amount of light needed.
What type of light bulbs do I need for my fixtures?
The type of light bulb you need for your fixture depends on several factors, such as the fixture type, the fixture's maximum wattage, the color temperature, and your personal preferences. The two types of light bulbs we supply on our store are:
-
Incandescent bulbs: These bulbs are the traditional type of light bulb and are available in a range of wattages. They produce a warm, yellowish light and are suitable for fixtures that don't require a lot of light output. However, they are less energy-efficient and have a shorter lifespan than other bulb types.
-
LED bulbs: These bulbs are highly energy-efficient and have a long lifespan. They are available in a range of color temperatures, from warm white to cool white, and can be dimmable or non-dimmable. LED bulbs are suitable for any fixture type, but you need to make sure that the bulb is compatible with the fixture and that the fixture can accommodate the bulb's size and wattage
What emitting light shade is suitable for me?
The choice between warm light and cool white light depends on the specific use case and personal preference. Here are some general guidelines:
Warm light:
- Creates a cozy and inviting atmosphere, making it suitable for bedrooms, living rooms, and other relaxation spaces.
- Can enhance the warmth and richness of certain colors, such as reds and yellows.
- Can be easier on the eyes and help promote relaxation.
Cool white light:
- Provides a brighter and more energizing light, making it suitable for task-oriented spaces like offices, kitchens, and bathrooms.
- Can help increase productivity and alertness.
- Can help make a space feel cleaner and more spacious.
It's important to note that warm light and cool white light are just two points on a spectrum of color temperatures, measured in Kelvin (K). Other options include neutral white (3500K - 4100K) and daylight (5000K - 6500K).
